Reluctantly Committed To Exercise

Today marks the 33rd consecutive day of exercise for me. For many folks this is not amazing or even noteworthy, however, I should say that to me this is the longest consecutive streak I can remember. Generally speaking I have always been active and I would run, bike, climb, or hike with regularity say, 4-5 times a week. But this is something different, I am energized and self supportive of this new trend, in fact I almost feel like I am, dare I say it? Training. Ah crap now that I've said it you are going to be wondering for what, when, where, how much,...blah blah blah and now comes the dissapointment...Nope I'm not gonna tell you, yet. Instead I will tell you what I have been doing. In the last 33 days I have ridden my bike 16 times, run 12 times and hiked, climbed or done strength training the remaining 5 days. While I won't say how long I plan on doing this I am eager to continue and keep things rolling for a better all around fitness level. And no, thus far I am not feeling overly energized in daily life, none of that euphoric whoohooo that fitness crazed late night exercise folks brag about.

But I am toning and feeling a little better about everything. I am still enjoying my moderately healthy diet with a nice dose of bacon and of course beer and I do not seem to be sleeping any better or worse than before. I am thinking more about my life and time in general, yes I spend to much time on this dang computer box and on the internets in general. While the www is a resource for UpaDowna pretty consistently it seems to really suck the life out of me. At times I wish I could drop the phone and internet and social media stuff and maybe I will for a while, but this is a necessary evil of the world we live in where folks like you are interested in what we have going on and actually appreciate some of the rants and news and events we like to host. And that is a fine mess that we have created so while I know the reality is that I am married to the world wide web the realization that it is also not the best thing is the first step in figuring out a way to make both the adventuring and the technology work well together, after all we would all most certainly rather be outside playing than reading this.

Now that you've sat through my blurb I will tell you that while I have specific event in mind as far as a training goal, I will say that I do this for both my family and myself. I am training for life and living each day as though I may not get another. I want to see my son grow up and my wife grow old with me and in order to do that I need to be healthy and be sure that I take care of myself both through healthy eating and regular exercise. This is my journey and I think you should join me.

Wow, 3 days in a row would be

Wow, 3 days in a row would be a feat for me! I just wanted to offer you words of encouragement for the great job you're doing w/ 33+ days. Like you, as the years go by, I think about my overall well being and how much exercise (completed that Insanity program) and diet play a much bigger part now. I too like my bacon and beer. I also like to jog, but it's hard to do in the winter here in the Midwest. To put it simple, jogging in the cold isn't fun. Keep up the good, hard work!

Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually had a conversation with a buddy on a mountain bike ride a few days back about nutrition and hydration and how it seems to matter now than when I was younger. As for the weather being an issue, I completely understand and I have managed to push through the nastiness with sheer will power even through snow storms and temperatures below 0F...but it was tough, real tough.
