Pumpkinhead Ale

We're now on our fourth BOTW for this month, one more to go. It still trips me out that there are 5 Mondays in October this year. We found another tasty Pumpkin Ale worth mentioning this week, Pumpkinhead Ale from Shipyard Brewing Company. It was a long week with many ups and downs, but one of the ups is definitely kicking back with a beer for review and reflecting on everything.

The seasonal taste of this ale is what you should come to expect with most pumpkin ales. However, something seems a little different with this one. It has all the usual suspects, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, pumpkin, but it seems very light like it's lacking in hops. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just makes it a lot lighter with less of a bite. It pours to a light copper body, with next to no lacing on the glass, and a very small head. It has an ABV of 5.10% and goes down as smooth as water. If you're looking for a pumpkin ale on the lighter side, this might be the beer for you. If you're more of a fan of a beer that bites back, you might not appreciate this one as much. All in all, I'd say a six pack of these, a friend, and a good conversation, are the right ingredients for a great night.
