Starting this Saturday, May 19th, if you are an active military member...you just scored the big one! The U.S. National Parks will be providing FREE annual passes to more than 2,000 national parks and other public lands. It's a fitting day to start offering these passes, given that Saturday is Armed Forces Day. Who do you have to thank for this? Well, Michele Obama and Jill Biden for one.

As much as we'd like to be outside all the time, the truth is we can't all do that.
Have no fear, I found an awesome ally in helping you make through the day. Canvas Rider is a stick figure based bike game, written entirely in Java Script and HTML with endless possibilities that will help the time fly. Best of all you can create your own track!!!

There currently are plans in the works to change the name of the Colorado National Monument. To what exactly well, that part is still being determined. Two of the names being considered are Colorado Canyons National Monument and Red Rock Canyons of the Colorado National Monument. The driving force behind the change comes from the lack of luster behind the current name not providing the park's true beauty and scenic landscape its due.

Most folks I know enjoy Nutella. This gooey chocolate substitute made with hazelnuts and a bit of cocoa is a camper's dream. In fact, I know folks that have eaten entire jars of this stuff in one sitting, ahem Marci T. and not even offered to share...

Last week a few friends and I set out to to summit two of Colorado's wonderful 14ers Mt. Shavano (14,229') and Tabeguache (14,155') of the Sawatch Range. It was forecasted to be a beautiful blue bird day with our biggest concern being sunburns. We read several recent trip reports as well as called the local ranger's office for trail and road conditions. We only found one concern, posted on 14ers.com about snow drifts blocking the road for one of the routes (The Angel). With two other routes to choose from this wasn't too much of a concern, and we set off.
