Eureka's website says it best when describing their new Apex 2XT, "Versatile fiberglass 2 pole dome tents are ideal for those less demanding adventures." Last Friday a few of us headed to 11 mile Canyon of Colorado for a quick get away after work. When we arrived to our chosen campsite it was after dark. I was concerned in how technical the set up of this tent would be, since I've never used it before and I would now be setting it up with a head lamp.
This is a good time for me to pause and recommend that you never assume that your gear is perfect just because it's brand new. Before going out on an adventure open your new items inspect them and familiarize yourself with it's set up and use. I didn't do this, but I did bring a back up tent that I'm very familiar with.
Okay, back to the Apex 2XT. The set up was a synch! It is a basic 2 pole dome style layout, that also includes a color coordinated clip in system for the fly. Aside from the darkness the tent was up in a matter of minutes and the only worry now was gathering fire wood. I was very impressed with the overall space inside the tent, the interior height was amazing! I don't think I've ever been in such a spacious 2 person tent before, and that's important if you're sharing a tent with me, and my pups. On the downside it did drop below freezing that night, and the tent wasn't the warmest. All that extra head space came back to bite me in the ass. Another concern that you might notice from the picture above is the round cut out on the fly at the foot and head sides of the tent. You definitely feel the cold on your head and feet, and if you're long enough to extend to both walls this could really be a downer for you. This is all goes back to using the right tool for the job as this tent is most definitely a mild 3 season set up. Would I use this tent again? Hell yes! Would I use it in below freezing temps, no. For more serious adventures Eureka has a Backpacking line, as well as an Expedition Series.
Features:
- 4 interior corner pockets
- Dome loft (attic storage)
- Durable bathtub floor
- Double entry
- Fly provides two room vestibules for extra storage space
Foot print not included.
If you're doing some summer camping with a small family ( 2 adults, and a child), or maybe you have dogs, you will love and appreciate this tent's space. Overall I like this tent and I'm looking forward to using it again in warmer conditions.
Would you like to own a new Eureka Apex 2XT? The fine folks from Eureka have decided to give one of our lucky readers their very own brand new Apex 2XT. Comment back on this post telling us why you deserve this tent, and what kind of adventures you'll take it on. This way we know it will be going to a good home. There will be only one winner, so get creative!

This tent could really save the day. My wife and I are planning a trip out west to see a few National Parks for the first time. We're really stoked to check out Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Arches and Canyonlands, all of which should be amazing for a couple of isolated Vermonters. Not to mention that it'll act as our official honeymoon, since our first one a few years back was a shoestring bike touring venture.
Here's the thing, we need a new tent but have a wimpy budget. I work for a small non-profit (that coincidentally promotes active outdoor lifestyles) so we're not exactly rolling in dough. Our current tent, as fond as I am of it, is about a dozen years old and has a several duck-tape fixes. It's also a bit cramped for 2 people and all our gear. This tent would be AWESOME and we would use it well on our trip and other fun outings. Also, orange is my favorite color.
I think Donnie should get it,
I think Donnie should get it, lol!
My name is Donnie. I
My name is Donnie. I desperately need a Eureka Apek 2XT because I live under a bridge. Well not literally, but there is a bridge not 2 miles away from the abandoned-taco-truck-turned-communal-shelter that I live in. I call it an abandoned taco truck, as you may have guessed, because my wife made some delicious organic bison tacos yesterday and that delightful aroma is still permeating the air of our well-appointed, LEED-certified condo. The people I live with are not homeless, per sé, but do sometimes lounge in their own excrement unless I take the time to help them bathe. This behavior is disturbingly considered normal in the little-known world of "healthy" parenting. Allow me to take you further into the frightening reality that I call, simply and bravely, life. On our weekly camping excursions into the many unspoiled areas of wilderness surrounding our difficult day-to-day in beautiful, vibrant, friendly Bozeman, Montana, my family shares a large tent which I'm sure is also made by Eureka, as I would never beg for anything less. Although I have made it clear to my fellow drifters from time to time that survival out in the elements depends heavily on not being eaten by bears, my offspring often insist on hiding stashes of agave-sweetened gummy bears in their Patagonia Kids cargo pants when crawling into their sleeping bags at night. They have it in their heads that I could kill a bear with only my hands, possibly because I have often claimed that to earn their respect and adoration. While this is most likely true, I value a good night's sleep and so would like to avoid ever having to sacrifice an essential REM cycle just to dispatch a silly bear whom the Ranger has clearly warned to stay away from picinic baskets anyway. So, I am very much interested in packing the 2XT on our next trip. My plan is to explain to my children that if any of them are suspected of harboring illicit edible contraband, he or she will be forced to sleep alone in the 2XT, 50 yards away from Dad, the big tent, and his bear handling skills. This will undoubtedly scare them straight. More importantly, though, with a legitimate reason to have brought along and erected an extra tent out of earshot, I will have no problem sneaking out after dark to sleep there alone, blissfully undisturbed by the rusty chainsaw impression that is my lovely wife's incessant snoring.
Thank you for your consideration.
I haven't owned a tent in
I haven't owned a tent in almost ten years. Sold everything to move west way back then. Yet with Fruita Fat Tire Fest coming up I'll need one so I can stay in a friends backyard. There are quite a few races and such I want to do this year where camping would be nice and help save on cash. Used to camp all the time. Need for RAGBRAI next summer too.

I'd love to win cause I NEVER win anything. It's not for a lack of trying, I enter contests all the time and never win. Even the Put your business card in drawings never seem to call my name. Please pick me, my family loves to camp and we could use a new tent.

Once upon a time, I had a nice Apex tent that I had bought... about two years ago. I was very excited to use the new tent and chill with the homies out in the CO woods... And my friend (cough*Rob Mitchell*cough), was breaking some branches for our camp fire. He huffed and he puffed, and he stomped on the end of the branches over a log to break them... on one of his mighty attempts, a piece of the branch went flying outta control, towards my Apex tent and tore a slit on it. Luckily, no one was in the tent--since we were enjoying nice, cold alcoholic beverages around the camp fire. I prayed to the Tent gods, that one day I will have another Apex tent to enjoy with the Upadowna crew....

I do not own a tent since I just moved to CO. I will be doing a lot of camping again this summer and would prefer not to freeze to death. All I can think of is waking up from a frozen coma as Cartman did 500 years in the episode “Go God Go” and sea otters are a super power. That’s by far my ideal future. But no actually just bought a jeep and plan on going to many remote areas in Colorado and this would be a perfect starter tent. Especially since I plan on doing most of my camping in the summer/fall months (once again a perfect tent). I also plan on taking it on a few UFO hunting trips with some good friends this summer. Rest assured this tent will be on many adventures this summer and see many amazing events that 9 out of 10 other tents will be extremely jealous of.

I'm a first-time athelete who has lost over 60 lbs. and am training for my first race, the GOG 10-Mile, in June. I've done the St. Pat's 5K and will be doing the Bolder Boulder in May. I'm also an avid camper. This tent would be the perfect reward for all the hard work I've done and will continue to do as part of my new active lifestyle. There's nothing like kicking back in a tent, up in the mountains, and treating myself to some R&R after all the training I'm doing. Thanks!
A lot of Floridians looking
A lot of Floridians looking to score this tent. I too moved here from Florida, 3 years ago. This is the first place that I have ever lived where I am totally landlocked. When I arrived, I was determined to explore as much as possible while I'm here. I went out and spent money on a bike, snowboard (+gear), trail running shoes, hiking boots and backpack, climbing gear and even a tent. Since I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy all of these new adventures, I went cheap and I'm slowly upgrading. My current tent is a Coleman that I purchased from Target... it doesn't pack well and it isn't easy to put together. I totally deserve an upgrade to something that can get me out to more adventures. Good luck everyone.
Hey Upadowna, thanks for the
Hey Upadowna, thanks for the chance at the tent. My wife and I were living in FL and had a beautiful baby girl a year ago. We decided we wanted to raise her in the mountains where being outside isn't punishment for most of the year (FL...). So, we packed up and left 1 job behind to move to the Springs. Now, we're loving it, getting out as much as we can, the only problem is the price of all the necessary gear. Camping season is upon us and there's nothing left in the "Adventure Fund". If we're the lucky winners, we're going to use the tent from the Front Range to the Rockies this summer.

I think I'll give it away. I bought a $1000 tent for some family in Haiti after the earthquake. I figured I'd find some way to ship it to Japan so someone could live in it.

I would love this tent! We have 6 year old twin boys, and I am anxious to get them out camping this summer. We've done a few overnights in the backyard last summer, but they are ready to do some real camping. They are little guys, so this would be perfect for us for getting out and about here in Teller County.
Thanks!
My current tent is bulky,
My current tent is bulky, heavy, and holey. Not to mention this is the perfect California tent! Me, me, me.
I need this tent to help me
I need this tent to help me survive the zombie apocalypse. In the meantime I'll have to use it during training expeditions and backpacking trips with my pups...and if I ever get stuck in the cold, sleeping in this tent will help me smell better than sleeping in a Tauntaun carcass. It will also provide me with much needed shelter when I get married in a month and my soon to be wife kicks me to the dog house for lame jokes about why I want a tent. ;)
How would I use it?
How would I use it? Backpacking solo or with friends up in the mountains, and also some car camping with my girls (5 & 3).
Why do I deserve it? Well, I don't know if I *deserve* it anymore than the next guy, but why I'd like it is to upgrade from my cheapo Target tent that I've been using for years. It does the job, but it'd sure be nice to step up a bit.
I want to win! Just this last
I want to win! Just this last summer I started taking my 5 yr old and 3 yr old camping with me. I was too nervous to take them camping in a tent for the longest time. This summer we're going to have some great family camping/climbing adventures and I have a feeling my cheap-O tent from Walmart isn't going to cut it... So save my children from having a crappy tent and pick me :)
I burned a hole in the floor
I burned a hole in the floor of my tent with a candle lantern and the radiant heat melted the window! Looks pretty ghetto with duct tape on the outside. So pick me.
Im doing something different
Im doing something different from everyone else

I am new to the area (from
I am new to the area (from FL), and am dying to go camping w/ my husband and our 1 year old daughter in the beautiful Colorado mountains. We are constantly hiking and dying to take longer adventures, which would include camping, and this tent would be perfect for the 3 of us! Please, please, please pick me!!! I wanna make all my FL friends jealous of our outdoor adventures, and the tent would definitely help! :)
Because I'm broke and poor,
Because I'm broke and poor, and my dog deserves more leg room. No really, I could use a new/better tent!
Ooops... forgot to tell you
Ooops... forgot to tell you how I'll use it BESIDES just for work!! Besides getting used 4 nights a week for work, I will show this tent a good time in the mountains of the Adirondacks and the Catskills for sure, my friend's wedding in eastern Washington state... and then maybe I'll have some time to take it along on my bucket-list trips through some of the eastern National Parks!! I hear the Smokey Mountains are nice this time of year!!
Well, for the past three
Well, for the past three summers I have been working to rid the Adirondack Park of invasive aquatic plants. From May through mid September I spend 4 nights per week in a tent. After 3 summers of work (plus lots of camping trips on the weekends!) my tent has been abused and it isn't in quite the same shape it was 3 1/2 years ago!! This tent looks durable (I've had Eureka tents in the past for car camping) and like a great place to fall asleep each night after a long day of work. AND It will make the gearhead boys on my crew super jealous!!!
I'm a semi-professional
I'm a semi-professional photographer and outdoorsy girl. I'm in search of the best sunrises/sunsets this summer while backwoods camping. I cannot take a large tent as I need to hike to remote locations. I'm planning a trip to Yellowstone for the first time this summer and would love to have a quality tent to rely on to keep me and my equipment warm and dry each night!
