We've said it before and I'll say it again, a good knife can save your life. I can't stress how important a reliable knife is, this is one piece of gear you don't want to take for granted. All around I believe a good knife is the most important piece of gear you can carry. It's the original and ultimate survival tool.

Weighing in at a hefty 4.7 oz. the Gerber Metolius Pocket Folder is a beast for its thin framed size. It may be a little on the heavy side, but this is probably the sturdiest small frame pocket folding knife that I have ever carried. You really feel as if you are carrying a much larger knife than you actually are.  From frame to blade this knife is completely made from stainless steel, and that's where it gets its sturdy weight from. There is a TacHide inlay on one side of the handle for grip, while the reverse side boasts a convenient pocket clip for carry.

The hefty stainless steel of this knife is 7Cr17 which is a comparable to commonly used 400 series stainless steel. This style of blade is known a as Drop Point. It has a fairly wide belly that curves in to a sharp point. There is a deep choil cut for your index finger just before the blades edge, this is the unsharpened round section at the base of the blade that can be used for additional grip. The spine of the blade tapers off nicely, and is equipped with a decent gimping section. This is the smooth serrated section found at the base of the spine that can be used for additional grip or to apply pressure. The blade can be opened ambidextrously with thumb pegs on either side of the blade.

The Gerber Metolius Pocket Folder is a very well rounded knife. It's built rough and tough, but thin enough to be convenient as an every day carry. Its MSRP of $37 makes it a very affordable piece that provides a lot of bang for it's buck! Ounce for ounce this a great knife. If you're looking for a new pocket knife check it out. If you're looking for something a bit bigger check out it's big brother the  Gerber Metolius. The Gerber Metolius Pocket Folder will make for a great gift or stalking stuffer for the adventurer in your life.

Bunny
