Icebreaker Tech T Lite Review

$60 for a t-shirt? You Betcha!

 Icebreaker Tech T Lite

  • Fabric: 100% Merino Wool 150 superfine
  • MSRP: $60

Alright so here we go...wool is one of the most amazing sustainable materials out there that has endless uses fortunately Icebreakers has spun their merino wool into this great shirt. It doesn't smell like synthetics, it wicks amazingly well and keeps you warm in the cold and cool in the heat. Lets face it Mother Nature does things best so why do companies spend countless dollars tweaking chemical nastiness in order to make an uber fabric? Who the hell knows! No, I would not usually suggest you spend the equivalent of 10 six packs of microbrew on a t shirt. But when it comes to Icebreaker I think it is worth a look. In fact I have never worn a shirt quite so comfortable. Most folks think of wool as itchy and uncomfortable but once you are introduced to the amazing silky smooth merino wool even the most wool averse will snuggle up to it. To be fair I love wool, I love its amazing natural ability to warm me. I do not get itchy when I wear any wool garment regardless of type of wool. So yeah I had to have my very anti-wool wife to feel for her self and even she agrees this is nice and smooth! This shirt has stood up to countless miles both hiking and running in temps in the mid 80's to the frigid single digits (utilizing the layering principles of course). It has not really shrunk much especially because I followed their care instructions (don't dry wool!!!). It has remained looking and feeling great and as I mentioned before $60 is pricey but this is truly a technical garment that can be used year round. So while we may be more prone to buys a $200 jacket that we will only use for a few months out of the year this shirt you could wear everyday in every season. By comparison this is a better smarter investment. If you are considering buying this or any of the Icebreaker products be sure and read about their company and check out their sweet BAA code which allows you to track where exactly your wool came from!
